The Cadillac Eldorado has been around for quite a long time. Though production ended on the vehicle in 2002, the model was produced for nearly 50 years, starting in 1953. In fact, the Eldorado currently holds the title for being the longest running American personal luxury automobile. For three years, from 1999 until production halted in 2002, it was the only personal luxury car being produced.

At the end of the seventies, the Eldorado was once again redesigned and smaller engines were introduced to improve fuel mileage. These included the 350 cu in 5.7 liter engine and the 368 cu in 6.0 Liter engine. The first was a 4.9 L L26 V8 engine that was included from 1992 to 1993. The final engine to be placed into the Eldorado would be the 4.6 L Northstar V8 engine.
