The Chevy Blazer S10 and Jimmy S15 compact SUVs were first introduced to the market in 1983. The S series Blazer was so named because it was based on the Chevrolet S10 pickup. The popular SUV was manufactured from 1983 until 2005. The first models used the GM 2.0L OHV 4 cylinder engine.

This engine upgrade provided 110hp and despite the larger size engine, the fuel economy on the highway increased dramatically with the increased horsepower. The engine was also upgraded in 1995 to the 4.3L Vortec 4300 V6 engine. The 4.3L was the last engine upgrade seen in the Blazer and was the one used from 1995 until production of the model ceased in 2005.
